About the Event
Ancestral Skills Gathering
Join us for a weekend delving into the living practises and skills of our hunter-gatherer ancestors.
3 nights and 4 days of re-wilding!
Wild Beings create spaces for humans to be human once again through practising primitive living skills in a village-like environment. We believe that in order to fully connect with ourselves as humans we need to relearn the lifeways that took place on the earth for hundreds of thousands of years. “To fully understand today, we must look to the past”
We will have Indigenous story and culture shared over the weekend by local First Nation people.
We pay our respects to the local Indigenous Culture by learning local knowledge, language, story.
The skills we will be sharing over the weekend are global skills that are found all around the world practised by all of our land-based ancestors.
They are:
- Fire by friction
How to make primitive fire, a hands-on workshop practising 2 different methods, Hand Drill & Bow drill. Learn what materials to use and how to make a fire kit. Connect with this primordial human skill as you master this basic survival skill.
- Shelter Building
Learn the basics of building a shelter in the bush, different styles, water proofing.
- Traditional cooking methods
Making food in an underground oven and cooking tripod.
- Natural rope/string making
Learn how to harvest bark from a brush kurrajong tree to make rope.
- Wild Foods and Medicines
Learn various bush foods and medicines with a guided wild foods walk around the property
These skills will be interwoven with various other knowledge about rewilding and how to connect deeper with our local ecology.
The intention of this gathering is to bring you into the natural world and teach skills that enable you to feel closer to the earth and your ancestral connection with this earth-based lifestyle.
This is a family friendly gathering, all ages welcome.
Children 4 and under come for free
There will be options for younger children to have some bush play time whilst the skill workshops are taking place. Though we ask that you are responsible for your young ones if they are around the workshops. This creates a safe space for all involved.
This is a camping gathering, please BYO camp gear, there is plenty of flat space to set up.
Completely off-grid no phone reception
Communal Dinner Provided both nights, please BYO breakfast, lunch and snacks
There will be a communal kitchen set up around the fire for communal dinners each night.
We honour the lands we gather on and the Original Custodians of the salt water tribes of the Guringai language groups that stretched throughout the area. We honour the age-old history and culture that was lived out on these lands and will do the best we can to honour the land as the Original Custodians have.
